Janet Powers
Hi! I'm Janet Powers, ready to leave with a group of college women tomorrow for the south. We're going to work for Habitat for Humanity in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Florida! I've got hammer in hand, ready to go. We're going to learn alot, about carpentry and comraderie. It'll be a thrill to help some deserving families get their first simple, but well-built house.
Here we come!
Elmira College
Here is part of our beautiful campus at Elmira College! It is spring here. We are getting ready to leave tomorrow on our ventures for Habitat for Humanity! We're excited. . .this is a big adventure!
Bon Voyage!

Tomorrow afternoon, we leave for Robbins TN. A four week trip to the southren part of the United States. For three weeks we will be building houses, learning about habitat, and relaxing. I have so many goals for this trip; I want to be a more knowledgeable person about Habitat and how it works, I want to get to know the girls that are going on the trip more, but most importantly I just want to have fun (which I know we will). I'm so excited, I don't know how I am going to sleep! I'm also extreamly scared, I have never really been to the "deep south", and being from Maine I don't really know how to react to diversity, but I will learn as the trip goes on. That's about it. The next journal entry will be from Robbins TN.

Lets try this again...
We have twenty-four hours until we leave for our journey into the southern United States. I have not been to many of the areas we will be traveling to and driving through, so it is exciting that I will be able to go to places I have never been. I can't wait to leave tomorrow, but it still feels so far away. It is so great that this trip is FINALLY happening after all we have been through. Anyway, that's enough for now, so feel free to comment on the website and the posts and leave little messages!!

Hello! Its the day before we leave for the south! I'm really excited about going! I still have a lot of stuff to do (ex: finish packing). I can't believe that we're actually leaving TOMORROW; it seems like the time flew by.
I have only driven through Tn and have never been to Ms, so I am very excited to go there and see what those states are like! I really look foward to talking with the different people and learning more about the "southern" culture! I just hope that we're not bothered too much by heat or bugs (wishful thinking!). Wish us well!
